A groove in the blade, commonly called a "blood groove." The bo-hi groove is to lighten the blade. Furthermore the grooves (always done on both sides of the blade) make a whistling sound when the sword is swung.

Habaki

The Habaki is referred to as the 'heart' of a Japanese sword and the alignment and tightness of all other parts depend on it being professionally made and installed. A Habaki must fit the blade with an high degree of accuracy in order to function properly. It is the cornerstone that all other parts push up against in their combined effort to join the handle and the blade together.


Seppa

Seppa are the spacers found on either side of the tsuba

These tsubas are fully made of iron. These fittings are more traditional, and will offer a superior balance.In addition Iron fittings are much more durable.

Fuchi & kashira

Fuchi and kashira are ornamental fittings which were attached to the hilts of Japanese swords. The fuchi fitted over the end of the hilt, and the kashira fitted over another end of the hilt. There are a variety of fuchi & kashira for choice. They are made from copper.

Menuki placement

The common menuki placement is correspond to a right-handed grip.The menuki replacement for right-hand: left menuki forward, the right menuki behind. The left-hand menuki replacement is reversed.

 


Ito (handle wrap)

There are a variety of colors of ito we offer. The ito are made of cotton, synthetic silk and silk.


Tsuka ito style

The art of wrapping the handle of a sword is called tsukamaki. We have professional staff for tying ito who have more than 10 years experiece on this job. Our ito tying is tight and proper and evenly done.

       


Mei signature

This is the text on the tang. Typically this is engraved. We offer engraving service with English, Chinese and Kanji characters. Up to 12-16 english letters, or 6-8 chinese or Kanji characters are allowed, for example your name. You can fill in the text in the box below. If you want the blade smith name engraved, just leave the below text intact.


Sharp or blunt sword

We can offer your sword blunt (iaito) or sharp (shinken) or both. It might be interesting for you to have your sword both with a blunt and a sharp edge.
